A message sent to Haroon Siddiqui,Toronto Star

Dear Mr Haroon Siddiqui,
Most  articles and editorials of the Western press play  on the same chord , reiterating what is frequently   broadcasted on the Qatari channel (Al Jazira) and CNN.
Reading  your  editorial I hoped to  find a different vision in your article, and a deeper understanding of the Egyptian in particular and  Islamic reality in general . And since we have met frequently during the conferences  of International PEN organization to which you and I belong, and are influenced by its ideas and propagate its   principles, allow me to comment on your article expressing  another point of view blocked by Western media though adopted  by the vast majority of the Egyptian people who marched in the largest peaceful march in history on June 30  .Their unanimous  demand was to topple  the ex president and the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood.
With deep respect I will respond briefly to some of the points made in your article on August 18 .
As prominent writer keen to obtain facts from  the original resources, I assume that  you are familiar with  some of the literature of the Muslim Brotherhood  and  their ideas. You have certainly read the history of the group and their violence that led to the assassinations of a number of politicians prior to 23rd of July revolution ,and finally  their attempt to assassinat Naser . This manner  in dealing with adversaries appeared clear during the election campaign for the presidency, where they threatened to burn Egypt unless their candidate is elected and carried out after deposing Morsi.
It is true that Egyptian police and its hired thugs used to target women protesters, not only hijabis/niqabis, but  all women. After February 2013  unveild women in particular were assaulted , because MB reject the existence of women in such places as demonstration , so it is more logic that they are the ones who were attacking girls and women in order to intimidate them from politics and force them to return home .
You say : In the post-Mubarak era, the army initiated virginity tests. The practice was defended by Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, now the de facto head of state.
Indeed, the army statement was to justify the  scandalous rejected act  on the pretext of protecting the officers of any allegations of raping of the female detainees. This justification was denounce d by women activists the  , and the officer in charge was tried for the dirty work and was imprisoned. He was not Al Sissy at all !
You said : the fault line has historic antecedents in colonized countries where a thin layer of westernized establishment was created to lord over the majority.
Actually a vast majority of poor uneducated citizens are adversary to the MB and reject their practices  . They were given the chance to rule the country by a majority which feared the return of the ex-regime .A whole year elapsed while people thirsty for reform and anxious to have a change of policy impatiently waited . Morsi and his men were busy distributing posts among themselves ,while the economic crisis was deepening and problems were piling up and crime rates, unemployment and school drop-out doubled. Morsi was adviced by the other parties to  hold early elections or to respond to the demands of the people and change some of the ministers who have failed to achieve any progress but he was adamant and disregarded the growing anger among people .
You say that Egyptians have no past experience of democracy . In fact democracy started in Egypt with the first Constitution in 1870       . Since then the Egyptians looked forward to achieve genuine democracy, which has already been attained in some years, but successive governments declined to go forward and repressed it . I hope that the Muslim Brotherhood theory of democracy the has emerged  is no longer possible to ignore their aggression  and their desire to monopolize power and their brutality against opponants.Unfortunately all of that is overlooked and ignored by Western Media which concentrates  solely on the reactions of the Security Forces .
What ousted Morsi was not a military coup , but the desire of 30 million people who marched repeatedly on June 30 and after . The Military performed the role assigned to it in the Constitution, to protect the people, internally and externally  . Most Media and westerm press ignore the fact that the Interim government is headed by a judge ( the ex president of the Constitutional Court ) and a cabinet of non military technocrats. They vowed to practice a roadmap starting with a compatible Constitution . A committee of fifty members of various trends, parties and heads of syndicates and trade unions is currently working on its termination .
What you call" Long-entrenched power brokers (the army, the security services, the judiciary, the bureaucracy, the crony capitalists, the Mubarak-era politicians)" proves that the majority of Egyptians refuse to accept the Islamists , who win elections by Threats and intimidation .They  threatened people of  going to hell if they vote for the "infidel"  Secularists , and  bought votes of  the poor by  little food supplies .
The liberals did not concede defeat, because it has been proven that Morsi Won the presidency by falsifying the result . They have not and will never join the old guard simply because they have initiated the revolution against it , and they do not accept to hand power back to the military despite the overwhelming popularity of major general  Sisi . Let me reassure you , friend , that  Egyptian liberals are not  naive  , and they do not prefer army rule , simply because the Army is not ruling and will not rule !!.
Finally you remembered  the  unconscionable” random attacks on Coptic and other churches . You certainly know that Copts have been targeted by Moslem Brotherhoods and Islamists' groups since decades , and many of them were asked to leave their homes ! . Let me remind you  of the brutal crimes of the MB against innocent unarmed citizens , and their torching and their Arsons all over the country and  subversion of hundreds of government institutions and buildings .You should worry deeply for Egyptian civilians being cut down if the MB had stayed ruling the state.
The  sympathy with fanatical religious currents by the West, who is blind to their brutal crimes and their bloody history is what encourages them to persist in their crimes.Indeed, the conflict in Egypt today is between the dream of establishing a civil secular progressive state , and the illusion of returning the Islamic caliphate .
